Citrus County has had a long history of Veterans Representing them in previous wars like WWI, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War 1 to present. Some have paid the ultimate sacrifice in securing our Freedom. Citrus County has several Memorials located at the old Citrus County Court House right on main Street in the Historic District of Inverness, FL. In our Fund raising projects we are planning on getting a Memorial for the Global War on Terrorism to include Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Citrus County Fallen Heroes Memorial in Crystal River, FL

The Fallen Heroes of Citrus County, Inc. is a non-profit organization created to recognize and honor Citrus County residents who served and continue to serve in the armed forces of the United States of America.

The Fallen Heroes War Memorial (pictured above) is located at the Bicentennial Park in Crystal River. It consists of a three piece granite monument which stands fourteen feet tall standing on an octagonal concrete base. The monument is surrounded by seven flagpoles flying the colors of our state, country, each of the branches of military, Prisoners of War, and those Missing in Action.

Engraved on the central monument are the names of fifty-four (as of October 2005) former Citrus County residents who lost their lives serving our country and defending our nation's liberties and freedoms.
